After reading the chapters in this textbook I have learned how Spanish speaking men and women greet eachother. After saying hello or goodbye they almost always shake hands. Women usually kiss eachother on one cheek. Men who are close friends usually hug one another and pat eachother on the back. The greetings are obviously much different than the greetings here in the U.S. The picture below shows how close friends in Spanish speaking countries greet each other.

  1. Rachel, You're right. The way Spaniards greet each other is an interesting custom that is different than the way Americans greet each other.

  3. This is a great way to communicate with each other. But, I don't know how to leave a "message" or contribute something from the chapter. I am very willing to participate in everything. I am going to try to Skype, which I have never done. Yikes.

  4. The kissing in Spain as a greeting is certainly indicative of their intimate culture and close relationships. In Chapter one I learned that in Spain residents go out for tapas for fun. Tapas are similar to appetizers and are served at bars like a happy hour is in America. I plan to go to Isabella's in downtown Frederick soon to try some tapas. I don't know how authentic they will be but I've heard good things about the restaurant.

  5. I've always found the difference in greetings in other countries is so cool to learn about. We definitely tend to keep our distance in the US compared to other countries, such as Spain, when it comes to saying hello. The only time I ever see women kiss eachother on the cheek to say hello is when I watch 'Real Housewives of Beverly Hills'!
